I am a passionate falconer with almost 20 years' experience working and flying a diverse variety of Birds of Prey.
As a young boy, Birds of Prey fascinated me. I was mesmerised by their acrobatic flying and hunting ability.
During 2006, I spent a week at a small Falconry Centre in Mid Wales, for work experience. It was here that I got bitten by the "Falconry Bug".
In Spring 2009, I became a Wildlife Management Falconer in Perth, Scotland. The company was one of Britain's largest in Wildlife Management and is still well known for flying Birds of Prey. My duties included flying a variety of birds including Harris Hawks and Falcons, to scare away gulls, pigeons, crows, etc. from around various sites, including hospitals, schools and industrial estates.
I moved to Bedfordshire in 2011, to work as a Display Falconer, at one of the country's largest Birds of Prey centres. Here, I was flying a multitude of birds, and thrived off the interaction with the public, whilst performing at Displays, Handling Experiences and Activities.
In 2014, I moved to Oxfordshire, to work at another Birds of Prey Centre, which was completely new and relatively small. Consequently, I was fortunate enough to be part of the Team that contributed to the growth of the business, into the much larger complex, that it is today.
In 2019, I decided to open up my very own Falconry business and created Wye Valley Falconry, based in Herefordshire and covering surrounding areas.
All the Falconry Experiences are conducted on location, at carefully selected venues, rather than from a dedicated falconry centre.
Rachel and I first met in 2006 while studying 'Animal Care' at Holme Lacy College in Herefordshire, where we developed a mutual interest in Birds of Prey.
Rachel joined the Wye Valley Falconry Team in 2019, and remains an incredibly important member of the team, now in charge of all the "behind-the-scenes" administration for the falconry business.
Furthermore, Rachel loves working with all the Birds of Prey, and has a particular soft spot for Aero (the Gyr x Saker Falcon) and Branston (the Mottled Owl).
